Akakū Upstairs Presents: Finding Your Voice Through Art with Maui Sculptor, Tim Garcia Oct. 18, 2018

Tim Garcia is a Maui sculptor who transforms stone, wood and metal into incredible works of art. He has been working in marble, local wood, and bronze at his Upcountry studio since 1999. Led by his love of Eastern aesthetics, he never tires of searching for the beauty to be found in his quiet, simple pieces, trusting in the organic nature of the materials he uses.

When Tim first started out as an artist, he was “all over the place”, applying to every show, trying all sorts of techniques – his art had no direction.  The journey was difficult, but the success he has achieved is due to finding his specific style, based on a few distinct forms that define his work. His message:  Find your voice and you will succeed!

Tim’s work is internationally collected, and can be seen in public spaces on Maui and in New Zealand and California. He currently teaches sculpture at Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao, Hawai‘i.

His work is shown in Viewpoints Gallery Maui, the Hui No‘eau Visual Art Center Maui, and Cedar Street Galleries in Honolulu.

Presentation: Tim will share samples of his work and life lessons he has learned along the way.  He will talk about his journey as an artist on Maui and the search to finding his voice through the art he makes. There are infinite opportunities to capture creativity here on Maui. He’ll share stories of inspiration and give you cues to discover your voice through art this evening.
