Ignite A Life, a non-profit, dba Hawaii Leaders Core, has been opening doors for the youth of our island community, sponsoring attendance at various renowned youth leadership summits across the globe, including San Diego, United Kingdom and Australia.
Co-founders of Ignite A Life are the mother-son team of Robin and Alex Muto. Alex is now 20 and leads the Hawaii Leaders Core. Robin is the CEO of Ignite A Life the 501(c)(3)
It began when Alex attended his first Global Youth Leadership Summit in San Diego at the age of 16, in July 2013. He returned a different person, empowered, on a mission and founded the Hawaii Leaders Core (HLC) just one month later. Alex said “I wanted to share and bring these skills back to the youth here, to Hawaii, to the people I feel are like my brothers and sisters,” So he asked his mom, Robin if he could invite his entire class to attend the next event in June of 2014. The group ended up taking 40 Maui County youths to the event held at the University of California, San Diego.
Their success rate with the students of the HLC has been stellar. “We have sent 188 students so far,” Alex said, from across Maui County, including Lanai and Molokai. To continue this path here in Maui County, the organization is hosting the first-ever Alaka’i Youth Leadership Academy this summer, June 18-24 at the Maui Beach Hotel. There are 2 tracks of instruction…a High School track (Grades 9-12) and a Grad Track (Ages 18-21). Both tracks are designed for participants who want to step up and learn skills to create a better quality of life and become leaders. It’s also for youth who want more out of life and don’t know the steps it takes to get there.
