Weekdays, between 1pm and 3 pm, by appointment, Akakū reserves its studio to assist nonprofit organizations in creating public service announcements (PSAs) that are up to five minutes in length. The studio is scheduled in 15 minute time slots for taping, but the actual airtime produced is a maximum of 5 minutes. Akakū provides one staff member to tape the segments. There is no editing available. You may provide video footage, still photos, banners, logos, or other props to enhance the production. The recorded PSAs will begin airing the as soon as possible good planning is very important for time sensitive events. A cablecast agreement must be filled out at the time of taping. The telephone number and websites of certified non-profit organizations may be included as a service to the public. No “call to action” or money may be mentioned. If there is a question of non-profit status, a non-profit may be required to provide documentation.
Cost: There is no charge for this service, however, nonprofits may be required to pay for expendable supplies, such as videotape and any props or backdrop material. Call 873-3432 to reserve a space.
Another option for nonprofit organizations is to submit a pre-existing PSA to be aired on the channel. PSAs are placed in Akakū’s PSA library for producers to add to the end of their shows.
Akakū reserves its studio weekdays between 1 and 3pm for single-camera productions called Open Mic, for resident members of our community. This opportunity allows any resident of Maui County to speak in front of the camera on any topic that they choose. The studio is scheduled in 15 minute time slots for taping, but the actual airtime produced is not to exceed 5 minutes. Akakū provides one staff member to tape the segments. There is no editing available and participants may take more time if time allows. Set dressing is limited and
participants are asked to keep their segments simple. The telephone numbers and websites of certified of non-profit organizations may be included as a service to the public. There may be no “call to action” or mention of money; cost of admission, price of service, etc. If there is a question of resident status, documentation may be requested. A cablecast agreement must be completed by participant at the time of taping.
