PROJECT YBEAM, (Youth Broadband Education & Awareness Mentoring), is a mobile video production program for Maui youth ages 12-19 years old. Successful completion leads to Certification with numerous benefits.

  • A 30-hour hands-on program. Cost is $150.00, scholarships available.
  • Training is on an innovative mobile platform. Stories are shot, edited and distributed on Apple iPod Touches.
  • Mobile journalism, ʻmojoʻ, focused on short format community story-telling.
  • Explores the technology and benefits of Broadband internet and video production.
  • Covers media literacy, media democracy, community engagement, and social issues through reflection and round-table discussion.
  • Builds confidence and become engaged community citizens.

AKAKŪ YOUTH EXCHANGE REPORTERS
AYME is a professional development mentoring program for Maui youth who have Certified in Project YBEAM: Akakū's youth media training program.

AYME Reporters:

  • Utilize their skills acquired from YBEAM to produce short format videos for community organizations and businesses.
  • Are eligible for paid (stipend) work opportunities.
  • Can apply for and receive free studio training and crew our weekly youth show, Maui Youth Now.
  • Earn free access to Akakū mobile workshops.
  • Earn free mobile video equipment access.
